Three ways to get a note out
- Copy as Markdown (More menu, or type
/copy): puts the whole note on the clipboard as Markdown. Good for pasting into another app. - Save as Markdown… (More menu): saves a
.mdfile. If the note has pictures, they're saved in a folder next to it, named after the file with-imagesat the end, and the Markdown links point there. - Save as text… (More menu): saves plain text without any formatting.
With the More menu, the note's title becomes a heading at the top of the Markdown. /copy copies only the text of the note.
What carries over
| In the note | In Markdown |
|---|---|
| Checklist | - [ ] to do and - [x] done |
| Headings | #, ##, ### |
| Bold, italic, strikethrough | **bold**, *italic*, ~~struck~~ |
| Bullet and numbered lists | - and 1. |
| Links | [text](https://…) |
| Code blocks | Fenced with ``` |
| Quotes | > quote |
| Pictures | Saved as files with "Save as Markdown". With "Copy as Markdown" they become an [image] placeholder, since the clipboard only holds text. |
Underlined text is kept as <u>, because Markdown has no underline of its own.
Exporting all your notes
Markdown export works one note at a time. To get every note out at once, use Settings → Backup & Data → Save a backup. That saves one JSON file with all your notes, archived ones and pictures included. JSON is an open format that other tools and scripts can read, so your notes are never stuck in Stickies.
Locked notes
A locked note asks for your PIN before it opens, so you can only export it after typing the PIN. The exported file isn't encrypted, so keep it somewhere private.
