Three natural gestures, zero desktop clutter

No floating windows covering your open workspace. Stickies expands smoothly as your cursor approaches and folds away the instant you are done.

Step 01

Subtle edge anchor

At rest, Stickies lives as a slim, color-coded indicator against your screen bezel. No taskbar noise, no window borders, and near-zero idle CPU usage.

Step 02

Proximity fan-out

Move your cursor to the edge to reveal your active deck. Notes slide into view with fluid spring physics, displaying titles, color tags, and timestamps.

Keep notes where you need them

Pop a note out next to your work, lock the private ones, and keep the important ones at the top.

Pop out a note

Press Ctrl+Shift+P to put a note in its own window. It stays where you put it, can stay on top, and is back in the same spot next time Stickies starts. Press it again to send the note back to the dock.

Lock notes with a PIN

Set a 4-digit PIN and lock any note with Ctrl+Shift+L. Locked notes are encrypted and ask for the PIN every time you open them. You get a recovery key in case you forget it.

Pin and reorder

Press Ctrl+Shift+T or type /top to keep a note above the others. Drag notes to put them in any order, in the dock and in All Notes.

Private by architecture, local by design

Stickies operates strictly on your physical machine. No account creation, no cloud sync servers, and no background telemetry watching what you write.

Windows DPAPI Encryption Windows CryptProtectData encrypts note bodies at rest, binding cryptographic keys directly to your active Windows login credentials.
PIN Lock for Private Notes Locked notes get a second layer of AES-256 encryption, with a key made from your PIN. They lock again when you close them or press Win+L. You can also hide every note until the PIN is entered.
Zero Telemetry & Analytics No Google Analytics, no PostHog, and no background crash reporting SDKs phoning home.
Offline-First Design Stickies only goes online to activate your license (once, with Polar) and to check for updates. You can turn off update checks in Settings. Your notes never leave your PC.
Native Rust Engine (<20MB RAM) Compiled native Rust and Tauri v2 with Windows WebView2. Starts with Windows silently with zero garbage collection pauses.
Clean Win32 API Integration Global hotkeys use official Windows RegisterHotKey APIs — zero screen scraping, keylogging hooks, or invasive accessibility privileges required.

Origin & Attribution

Giving credit where it is due

Stickies was inspired by Shobhit's fantastic Mac utility, Hold My Notes. I loved the screen-edge docking idea on macOS so much that I wanted Windows users to have a lightweight, private version of their own.

I built Stickies from scratch for Windows using Rust + Tauri v2, native Windows DPAPI encryption, and my own slash command system (/calc, /standup, /clean).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Stickies available for macOS?
No. Stickies is designed exclusively for Windows using Win32 window management, native WebView2, and Windows DPAPI encryption.

If you're on macOS, I recommend Hold My Notes by Shobhit. It's the Mac app that inspired Stickies.
How much does Stickies cost?
$4.99, paid once. There is no subscription. One purchase covers up to 3 of your Windows PCs, and updates are free. You can try everything free for 7 days first, no credit card needed.
Do my notes sync between PCs?
No. Your notes stay on your PC and are encrypted for your Windows account, so only you on that PC can read them. You can keep the notes file in a synced folder or on a NAS as a backup (Settings → Backup & Data). To move notes to another PC, export a backup there and import it on the new one.
Does it stay visible over full-screen games and apps?
Yes. The dock stays on top of other windows by default (you can change this in Settings → General). Notes you pop out into their own window have their own pin button to keep them on top.
How does multi-monitor support work?
In Settings → Dock you choose which screen the dock lives on: your main screen, your second screen, or whichever screen your mouse is on. If you unplug a monitor, the dock moves back to a screen you still have. The hotkeys (Win+Alt+N, Win+Alt+A) work on any screen.
What are the primary keyboard shortcuts?
Win+Alt+N (or Alt+Shift+N) opens a new note, Win+Alt+A opens All Notes, Ctrl+. changes the color, and Esc puts the note back in the dock. On an open note, Ctrl+Shift+P pops it out, Ctrl+Shift+T pins it to the top, Ctrl+Shift+L locks it, Ctrl+Shift+A archives it, and Ctrl+Shift+Del deletes it (you get 10 seconds to undo).
Can I lock private notes?
Yes. Set a 4-digit PIN in Settings → PIN Lock, then lock any note. Locked notes are encrypted with a key made from your PIN, and they ask for it every time you open them. When you set up the PIN, you get a recovery key. Keep it somewhere safe: without the PIN or the recovery key, nobody can open those notes, me included.
How does the 3-device license work?
A single purchase key allows active installation on up to 3 of your personal Windows PCs simultaneously. If you upgrade or replace a PC, click Deactivate this PC in Settings → License on the old one. If that PC is gone, remove it at polar.sh/eigenlabs/portal, or email me and I'll sort it out.
What slash commands are built into notes?
Type / anywhere inside a note to summon a floating autocomplete palette. Execute formatting blocks (/todo, /bullet, /num, /h1–/h3, /code, /quote), inline math calculations (/calc 25 * 4), live timestamps (/date, /time), meeting templates (/standup, /meeting, /proscons), and speed actions (/clean to remove checked tasks, /blue to change theme, /copy to export markdown). All commands run locally with sub-millisecond execution.
